Dr. Rick Van Haveren is a Licensed Psychologist in Georgia (#2458). He completed his master’s degree at the University of Miami and his doctorate at Oklahoma State University. His doctoral dissertation examined the career development of college athletes (Van Haveren Dissertation 1999). He specializes in applying the principles of performance psychology to sport, career, and life. He has 15 years of experience specializing in adolescent and adult populations. As a Licensed Psychologist Dr. Van Haveren sees people dealing with many common issues such as depression, anxiety/stress, relationship/communication problems, family/divorce/parenting, men’s issues, work performance/career counseling, confidence, ADHD, life coaching, and substance use. Services can be provided in-office or via on-line sessions.
Before beginning his private practice, he was a Psychologist at Georgia State University in Atlanta where he worked with student/young adult populations. This included serving as the liaison to the athletic department and as the director of the University’s career services.
In addition to working with individual clients, he recently served as a consultant for the Dallas Cowboys at the NFL Combine. His practice services recreational, high school, college, and professional athletes. He also works with non-athletes to provide counseling and personal coaching services for adults and adolescents.
On a personal level, Dr. Van Haveren has been married for 17 years and has 3 very active children including 2 teenagers. He has been helping thousands of clients in the Atlanta and North Fulton area since 1999.
Alo ng with his practice, Dr. Van Haveren designed the Introduction to Sport Psychology class at Capella University. Other practice activities include providing supervision and consultation to other psychologists. Further, he partners with several leading surgical centers to help patients develop weight loss/exercise programs and healthy habits. His research on Burnout and Sexual Health has been published in leading scholarly journals.

Dr. Van Haveren has appeared in Men’s and Women’s Fitness, Georgia Trend Magazine, and ALTA Net News. He has also appeared nationally on ABC, NBC, CBS, and Fox affiliates. He is a member of the American Psychological Association’s Division 47–Exercise and Sport Psychology and the National Career Development Association where he earned the designation of a Master Career Counselor. He is the only doctoral level practitioner in Georgia with this designation.
Dr. Van Haveren, seated in the middle, was also an invited guest of Clark Howard to speak on his prime time TV special about the psychology of dream jobs.
